This and that...It's a Girl!

We found out that our newest grandchild is going to be a girl! How exciting! We pray for her and her mother's safety as this pregnancy and birth progress. We were able to see our Hope (and her Mom) on Monday. She is gorgeous and sooo good. It was an awesome visit.

Most of you know the multitude of things that have been going on in our life lately and I came across some good teaching and a plan!

A Simple Season
My life is pretty simple these days. I’ve cut way back on activities and responsibilities. When I first feel sickness or the feeling of being overwhelmed set in, I use to try hard to keep my normal schedule: still waking up and tackling my to-do list. But I was failing royally. I was exhausted and couldn’t keep up. Change was needed. I knew I needed to simplify.
I had to acknowledge that the Lord had placed limitations in this season of my life. It was humbling, but these limitations were God-given and for my good. So, I pared down my life to the two most important things: tending to my soul and caring for my family (to the best of my ability).
Making these two areas a priority meant cutting out other projects and pursuits and even disappointing people at times. I have said “no” to certain social events. I purposefully take one to two naps every day. All this so I can conserve my energy and spend it on a quiet time and caring for my family’s basic needs.
How can you simplify in seasons so that your family and your spiritual life are the main priorities? What do you need to cut out of your life temporarily so that these two most important things don’t get crowded out by less significant activities and events? If we don’t purpose to pare down in these difficult seasons, then we’ll most likely end up overwhelmed and exhausted, neglecting what is most important. I am claiming God's names of El Shaddai and Jehovah Shalom.
EL SHADDAI: God Almighty or "God All Sufficient." "all-sufficient" or "self-sufficient."
JEHOVAH-SHALOM: "The Lord Our Peace" Judges 6:24.
Shalom means that kind of peace that results from being a whole person in right relationship to God and to one's fellow man.

I choose to enjoy "this moment."

Miracle of the Moment by
Stephen Curtis Chapman

It’s time for letting go
All of our if only’s
‘Cause we don’t have a time machine
And even if we did
Would we really want to use it?
Would we really want to go change everything?
‘Cause we are who and where and what we are for now
And this is the only moment we can do anything about

Chorus:
So breathe it in and breathe it out
Listen to your heartbeat
There’s a wonder in the here and now
It’s right there in front of you
And I don’t want you to miss
The miracle of the moment

There’s only one who knows
What’s really out there waiting
In all the moments yet to be
And all we need to know
Is He’s out there waiting
To Him the future’s history
And He has given us a treasure called right now
And this is the only moment we can do anything about
And if it brings you tears

Then taste them as they fall
And let them soften your heart
And if it brings you laughter
Then throw your head back
And let it go, let it go
You gotta let it go
Listen to your heartbeat.

I also found something written by Audrey Hepburn. I have always thought she was a beautiful actress. She was asked to share her "beauty tips" and this is what she said:
"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands: one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others."

I am still concerned about the upcoming presidential election. Here is an excerpt from an article that I ran across today.

Barack Obama is trying to reach out to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, confused and all the other kinds of voters out there.
The Democratic presidential hopeful has just written the following message:

"I'm running for President to build an America that lives up to our founding promise of equality for all – a promise that extends to our gay brothers and sisters. It's wrong to have millions of Americans living as second-class citizens in this nation. And I ask for your support in this election so that together we can bring about real change for all LGBT Americans.

Equality is a moral imperative. That's why throughout my career, I have fought to eliminate discrimination against LGBT Americans. In Illinois, I co-sponsored a fully inclusive bill that prohibited discrimination on the basis of both sexual orientation and gender identity, extending protection to the workplace, housing, and places of public accommodation. In the U.S. Senate, I have co-sponsored bills that would equalize tax treatment for same-sex couples and provide benefits to domestic partners of federal employees. And as president, I will place the weight of my administration behind the enactment of the Matthew Shepard Act to outlaw hate crimes and a fully inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act to outlaw workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

As your President, I will use the bully pulpit to urge states to treat same-sex couples with full equality in their family and adoption laws. I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way to secure that equal treatment. But I also believe that the federal government should not stand in the way of states that want to decide on their own how best to pursue equality for gay and lesbian couples — whether that means a domestic partnership, a civil union, or a civil marriage. Unlike Senator Clinton, I support the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) – a position I have held since before arriving in the U.S. Senate. While some say we should repeal only part of the law, I believe we should get rid of that statute altogether. Federal law should not discriminate in any way against gay and lesbian couples, which is precisely what DOMA does. I have also called for us to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and I have worked to improve the Uniting American Families Act so we can afford same-sex couples the same rights and obligations as married couples in our immigration system.

The next president must also address the HIV/AIDS epidemic. When it comes to prevention, we do not have to choose between values and science. While abstinence education should be part of any strategy, we also need to use common sense. We should have age-appropriate sex education that includes information about contraception. We should pass the JUSTICE Act to combat infection within our prison population. And we should lift the federal ban on needle exchange, which could dramatically reduce rates of infection among drug users. In addition, local governments can protect public health by distributing contraceptives.

We also need a president who's willing to confront the stigma – too often tied to homophobia – that continues to surround HIV/AIDS. I confronted this stigma directly in a speech to evangelicals at Rick Warren's Saddleback Church, and will continue to speak out as president. That is where I stand on the major issues of the day. But having the right positions on the issues is only half the battle. The other half is to win broad support for those positions. And winning broad support will require stepping outside our comfort zone. If we want to repeal DOMA, repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and implement fully inclusive laws outlawing hate crimes and discrimination in the workplace, we need to bring the message of LGBT equality to skeptical audiences as well as friendly ones – and that's what I've done throughout my career. I brought this message of inclusiveness to all of America in my keynote address at the 2004 Democratic convention. I talked about the need to fight homophobia when I announced my candidacy for President, and I have been talking about LGBT equality to a number of groups during this campaign – from local LGBT activists to rural farmers to parishioners at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, where Dr. Martin Luther King once preached.

Just as important, I have been listening to what all Americans have to say. I will never compromise on my commitment to equal rights for all LGBT Americans. But neither will I close my ears to the voices of those who still need to be convinced. That is the work we must do to move forward together. It is difficult. It is challenging. And it is necessary.

Americans are yearning for leadership that can empower us to reach for what we know is possible. I believe that we can achieve the goal of full equality for the millions of LGBT people in this country. To do that, we need leadership that can appeal to the best parts of the human spirit. Join with me, and I will provide that leadership. Together, we will achieve real equality for all Americans, gay and straight alike."

I also saw these comments on John McCain:
Stands tall on Iraq, but comes up short on immigration
Hot on spending cuts, cool on tax cuts
Tough on abortion, soft on stem-cell research!

Please feel free to comment, I welcome your thoughts.

Eternity

This has been quite a week. On Tuesday morning we received a phone call that a teenager from our church had died in an automobile accident on Monday afternoon. It is so sad. The joy is that she is with our Savior. She left behind a lasting legacy of the joy that she showed in our Lord. She leaves behind her parents and 4 sisters. She would have graduated from high school this May and was buried in her cap and gown.
My friend Wes, who plays keyboards, Aunt died yesterday of a stroke. She had just been diagnosed with Leukemia about 2 weeks ago.
My teen-age friend, Big John, suffered a great loss. His Grandmother passed away yesterday. His grandparents are raising him. He is 17 I think.
Please pray for all of these families and friends in their loss.

Church was really wonderful today. Decisions were made for Christ, our Pastor's message was on the reality of eternity. I think it struck home with alot of people in light of this weeks' events.
The passage was from Luke Chapter 16 beginning with verse 19:

Luk 16:19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.

Luk 16:20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores

Luk 16:21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

Luk 16:22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried.

Luk 16:23 In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

Luk 16:24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

Luk 16:25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

Luk 16:26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

Luk 16:27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house,

Luk 16:28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

Luk 16:29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

Luk 16:30 ” ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

Luk 16:31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

This all goes back to...we are not promised tomorrow. Tell Everyone about Jesus NOW! Live each day as if it is your last. Let your loved ones know that you love them Be the person that Jesus wants you to be right now! Al and I were discussing the differences between worldly happiness and true joy yesterday. This is the best way I have to describe it to you:

Joy: a deep-seated satisfaction that leaves one's heart content in what God has given and done for us.
It is a Joy that is both Inexpressible and Glorious/Exultant. Inexpressible means there are no words to describe it. What has happened to us is so exciting, so awesome, we are speechless.

We live in a sad world--a world of despair, depression, lack of fulfillment, and dissatisfaction. Man defines happiness as an attitude of satisfaction and delight based upon present circumstances. He relates happiness to happenings and happenstance. It is something that can't be planned or programmed.

Biblical joy consists of the deep and abiding confidence that all is well regardless of circumstance and difficulty. It is something very different from worldly happiness. Biblical joy is always related to God and belongs only to those in Christ. It is the permanent possession of every believer--not a whimsical delight that comes and goes as chance offers it opportunity.

A good definition of joy is this: it's the flag that flies on the castle of the heart when the King is in residence. Only Christians can know true and lasting joy.

A Christian's joy is a gift from God to those who believe the gospel, being produced in them by the Holy Spirit as they receive and obey the Word, being mixed with trials with a hope set on future glory. The belief that one is part of a Process or Plan that extends beyond one's own needs and aspirations, that will have a positive impact on other peoples' lives, and will continue after one's death.

These are the words to "Steal My Joy" by Mandisa, she was an American Idol contestant who did not win. She used to sing at Beth Moore Conferences and she has now released a Christian album.

I look at my life
And I still can't believe it
How did I make it
To where I stand now?
You don't understand
I was up against the whole world
And all I could feel was it breaking me down
But out of a hopeless situation
There came a song of redemption

Life may push my heart to the limit
But I won't let go
Of the joy in my soul
'Cause everything can change in a minute
And the world may try
But they're never gonna steal my joy

So get up, stand up
And rise above it
If every plan
That you've made goes so wrong
You don't have to give in to the struggle
You may be down
But don't stay there for long
In every hopeless situation
There is a song of redemption

The world may say
You're never gonna make it
The world may say
You're not strong enough to take it
But I don't care
'Cause the joy of the Lord is real
And they're never gonna steal my joy

If Jesus is in your heart, then there is Joy! If he is in the heart of your family and friends the joy is immeasuarable. We all know at least one person who doesn't (or has refused to) accept Jesus, let us all pray that these people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

I went to my doctor Wednesday and my medications were changed again. We even added a new one..........oh boy. I'll be fine it is just disturbing that the thing that makes me feel functional, (steroids) also causes multiple other problems. I know that God is in control and all will be fine.

I am truly frightened about the state of our government. I cannot imagine an Obama or Clinton Presidency. That really frightens me. I like Mike! I could deal with McCain or Paul. I don't know how it is going to end up but I know who does. Please feel free to comment.

Words of Wisdom

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God.

What's mainly wrong with society today is that too many Dirt Roads have been paved.

There's not a problem in America today, crime, drugs, education, divorce, delinquency that wouldn't be remedied, if we just had more Dirt Roads, because Dirt Roads give character. People that live at the end of Dirt Roads learn early on that life is a bumpy ride. That it can jar you right down to your teeth sometimes, but it's worth it, if at the end is home...a loving spouse, happy kids and a dog.

We wouldn't have near the trouble with our educational system if our kids got their exercise walking a Dirt Road with other kids, from whom they learn how to get along. There was less crime in our streets before they were paved. Criminals didn't walk two dusty miles to rob or rape, if they knew they'd be welcomed by 5 barking dogs and a double barrel shotgun. And there were no drive by shootings.

Our values were better when our roads were worse! People did not worship their cars more than their kids, and motorists were more courteous, they didn't tailgate by riding the bumper or the guy in front would choke you with dust & bust your windshield with rocks.
Dirt Roads taught patience. Dirt Roads were environmentally friendly, you didn't hop in your car for a quart of milk you walked to the barn for your milk. For your mail, you walked to the mail box.

What if it rained and the Dirt Road got washed out? That was the best part, then you stayed home and had some family time, roasted marshmallows and popped popcorn and pony rode on Daddy's shoulders and learned how to make prettier quilts than anybody.

At the end of Dirt Roads, you soon learned that bad words tasted like soap.

Most paved roads lead to trouble, Dirt Roads more likely lead to a fishing creek or a swimming hole.

At the end of a Dirt Road, the only time we even locked our car was in August, because if we didn't some neighbor would fill it with too much zucchini.

At the end of a Dirt Road, there was always extra springtime income, from when city dudes would get stuck, you'd have to hitch up a team and pull them out. Usually you got a dollar...always you got a new friend...at the end of a Dirt Road!

~by Paul Harvey~

"A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ
that a man should have to seek Him first to find her."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'" I'm whispering "I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain..
I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou,
I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Pretty is as Pretty does... but beautiful is just plain beautiful!

Hello

Sorry I haven't written in a while. I never knew death (MY Mom's) could take up so much time. There are alot of loose ends to tie up and everything takes time. I am glad to say that my Dad is doing ok. He has his moments but we all do. We still realize that Mom is better. I received something cute in my email during this political season and I thought I would pass it on. Yall know I'm a big Disney fan so it caught my attention:

The Seven Dwarfs

The seven dwarfs always left to go work in the mine early each
morning.
As always, Snow White stayed home doing her domestic chores.

As lunchtime approached, she would prepare their lunch and carry it
to the mine. One day as she arrived at the mine with the lunch, she
saw that there had been a terrible cave-in.

Tearfully, and fearing the worst, Snow White began calling out,
hoping against hope that the dwarfs had somehow survived.

"Hello, hello!" she shouted. "Can anyone hear me? Hello!"

For a long while, there was no answer. Losing hope, Snow White
again shouted, "Hello! Is anyone down there?"

Just as she was about to give up all hope, there came a faint voice
from deep within the mine. "Vote for Hillary, Vote for Hillary."

Snow White fell to her knees, crossed herself and prayed, "Oh,
thank you, God! At least Dopey is still alive."

I'm still stuck for a candidate, Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee. Help!

Please pray for my friend Debbie Bourgoyne in the loss of her mother, Elsie Mascair, this week. Life is different without a mother, I've learned in 1 month.
